Lwak Girls High School, affectionately known as the “Red Devils,” is one of Kenya’s oldest and most respected girls’ high schools. Located on a 30-acre campus in Rarieda District, Siaya County, the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna from Oudenbosch, Holland, established the school in 1965. Originally equipped with just two classrooms, a laboratory, and a multipurpose hall that served as both dormitory and dining area, Lwak Girls began with around 300 students. Today, the school proudly educates approximately 1,165 students across six class streams.

The school’s distinctive red and white uniforms make it a notable sight in Kisumu City during school term changes. Known for its excellence in academics, sports, and the arts—particularly hockey, music, and drama—Lwak Girls has produced several prominent alumnae who embody the school’s motto: “In Pursuit of Excellence and Integrity.”

Feminists are calling upon President William Ruto to declare Femicide in Kenya a National Emergency and a threat to national security. The women in Kenya are also requesting the Interior CS Kindiki Kithure and Gender CS Aisha Jumwa to promptly and decisively tackle this crisis.

The surging Femicide cases in Kenya have sparked outrage with rights groups asserting that it’s now a national crisis. Femicide Count Kenya recorded 152 killings last year, the highest number of cases for the past five years.

According to a report titled Homicide Country Data released in 2022 by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) 706 cases of femicide, or 2.64 cases per 100,000 women, were recorded in Kenya in 2021.

This year has not been any different as the number of femicide cases continues to rise. GBV activist and Co-founder Usikimye, Njeri Migwi asserts that “What we are looking at as femicide is a culmination of years of neglect in gender-based violence. We can’t term femicide as anything else but a national crisis…”

Women’s rights activists called for a nationwide protest at Jevanjee Garden that commenced on Saturday, January 27, 2023, at 10 am.

The peaceful protests occurred in 11 counties including, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Machakos, Nyeri, Nakuru, Eldoret, Homabay, Turkana, Kilifi, and Kisii.

The protests were attended by feminists, People Living With Disabilities, Human Rights Defenders, Women survivors of Gender-Based Violence, Torture and, Human Trafficking as well as Women who work in the informal sector.

Username Investment Limited is a leading real estate company in Kenya. Recently recognized as the top real estate land seller at the Starbrands East Africa Awards 2023-2024. This recognition came after a survey done by Enterprit Brands Awards.

Thamini Awards 2023-2024

At the 5th annual Thamini Awards Ceremony held at the Panari Hotel, Username Investments showcased its dedication to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions from its staff. The spotlight of the evening was on Esther Naima, the Assistant Sales Manager, who clinched Employee of the Year award, earning a sleek Mercedes car.

The Thamini Awards, rooted in the Swahili word “Thamini” meaning “to value,” reflect Username Investments’ commitment to fostering a culture of excellence. The event is a testament to the company’s belief that recognizing and rewarding achievements is integral to motivating the team and driving overall success.

A Tradition of Recognition and Rewards

Username Investments doesn’t stop at the annual Thamini Awards; it maintains a monthly “Employee of the Month” program, reinforcing a culture of consistent excellence with monthly reward vouchers. The 12 awards presented during the ceremony ranged from fully paid holidays to various destinations, electronic gadgets, and shopping vouchers, showcasing the company’s commitment to valuing its employees.

Reuben Kimani, the CEO, concluded the event with a call to fellow CEOs and industry leaders worldwide, urging them to invest in their people. This philosophy resonates with Username Investments’ approach of prioritizing the development and well-being of its staff over just focusing on profits.

Recognizing Clients

Username Investments doesn’t only excel in recognizing its staff; it extends its appreciation to clients through initiatives like the Christmas Campaign Draw. In past years, investors have had the chance to win fully paid holiday trips and other prizes. In the 2021 draw, Mary Kemboi, an investor at Havanna Estate Nakuru, emerged as the lucky winner of a fully paid trip for 2 to Dubai, showcasing the company’s commitment to rewarding its investors.

Previous Awards

The Thamini Awards are not the only instances where Username Investments has stood out in recognizing its clients. In the Christmas Campaign Draw of 2020, Veronicah Macharia was awarded a fully paid holiday trip for 2 to Thailand. The draw, held after a two-month campaign, saw numerous investors, including Naomi Chelagat and Susan Njoroge, winning fully paid holiday trips to Mombasa and Maasai Mara, respectively.

Username Investments’ commitment to recognizing and rewarding its clients is evident, with a track record of multiple winners in various campaigns. This consistent approach solidifies the company’s standing as a trustworthy and client-centric real estate entity.

As Username Investments continues to evolve and grow, its commitment to recognizing individual and client contributions remains a driving force, making it a standout and trusted entity in the competitive real estate landscape.

Ladies, buckle up because we’re taking a thrilling ride through the fascinating world of your menstrual cycle! Your body is a powerhouse of hormones, and each phase brings its own set of surprises. Let’s dive in and explore how these hormonal shifts can influence your energy levels and productivity.

Menstrual Phase

Picture this: cozy blankets, your favorite book, and maybe a bit of chocolate. During your menstrual phase, estrogen takes a dip, dragging your energy levels down. It’s nature’s way of saying, “Hey, it’s okay to take it easy.” Embrace the chill vibes, say no to overcommitting, and catch up on some well-deserved rest.

How to Maximize Your Time During This Phase: Tackle challenging tasks, amp up your exercise routine, and socializing with friends.

Ovulation Phase

During this phase, estrogen and testosterone hit their peak. You’re on a natural high, feeling energetic and ready to conquer the world. It’s the perfect time for important conversations, team projects, and, if you’re trying to conceive, well, you know what to do!

How to Maximize Your Time During This Phase: Seize the moment for team tasks, engage in challenging conversations, and celebrate your peak energy.

Luteal Phase

As you transition towards the luteal phase, progesterone takes the lead. If pregnancy isn’t on the horizon, progesterone levels drop, leading to potential sluggishness. PMS symptoms might make an appearance, so it’s time for self-care and relaxation.

How to Maximize Your Time During This Phase: Embrace self-care, focus on lighter tasks, and indulge in a bit of pampering.

Understanding Your Cycle

Every woman’s body is unique, and understanding your cycle is the key to unlocking your full potential. Whether you’re a calendar tracker or an app user, knowing your patterns empowers you to navigate through the month with grace.

Bonus Tip: Keep a menstrual diary to track patterns and share insights with your healthcare provider for personalized care.

In a world that often overlooks the magic of the menstrual cycle, it’s time to celebrate the incredible journey your body goes through each month. So, embrace the highs and lows, listen to your body’s cues, and ride the hormonal rollercoaster like the queen you are!
