Woman Kenya Network interviews her on her upcoming book launch on March 9, at Sarova Panafric. 101 Leadership Lessons: Impacting Africa’s Leaders is Dr. Mosinya’s first book. In her own words, the book is meant to spark readers at personal and professional levels.

It is for individuals, cooperates, and institutions aspiring to lead and to be authentic leaders.

What would people be surprised to find out about you?

That I grew up in fuming poverty. However, that does not define who I am today.

Why is your first book on Authentic Leadership and not anything else?

I wrote this book to remind us of basic but critical behaviors and practices of humanity. But most importantly, to die empty. If I died without authoring these lessons, I would be the most selfish human being on earth.

In your opinion, who is an authentic leader?

An authentic leader is one who is committed to being original in doing things with integrity no matter what. Not all leaders are authentic but we all have the potential of becoming authentic leaders. Authenticity is an ongoing journey.

Which leaders do you consider authentic and why?

Former Chief Justice, Emeritus David Maraga, and indeed the Chief Guest at my book launch happening on March 9, at Sarova Panafric Nairobi Kenya. I also consider Amref Health Africa Global Chief Executive Dr. Githinji Gitahi an authentic leader. So is the late Dr. Kofi Annan, Dr.John Nkengasong, Director of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Global health leader Dr. Alex Coutinho.

Also on my list are Dr.Ebere Okereke, Oprah Winfrey and Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wangari Mathaai.

All these personalities serve(d) humanity with passion and exhibit (ed) servanthood leadership.

What common leadership misconceptions does your book address?

A lot of lessons are addressed in my book. Actually, all the 101 lessons demystify poor leadership. For instance, leadership is not an opportunity for oppression but for service; Leadership is a platform to inspire, and it is a platform for learning, sharing, and caring.

You will need to buy the book to get the full picture. Advance copies of the book are available Nuria online but one can get in touch with me directly at: jmosinya@gmail.com.

How has your personal experience shaped your views on leadership and influenced your book?

It is been a journey of learning, unlearning, and relearning, and has been an opportunity for deep reflection on committing to authenticity. I have learned to turn my mistakes into stepping stones in shaping myself.

Please share an experience that taught you an important lesson on leadership.

I keep drinking from the fountain of humility which leaders like former CJ Maraga and the late Dr. Kofi Annan established…their legacy has been and is my beneficiary.

In your book, what are the top three challenges leaders face today, and how can they overcome them?

Being original in authenticity, serving humanity as servants, and selfishly guarding the interests of humanity and not their own….the solution is clothing servanthood leadership.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Every author has incredible content to pen…Please pen it down….there is the ready fertile soil where it will germinate.

So what’s next after the book launch?

Of course after authoring this book and launching it ..my heart feels light.

This is the genesis of ongoing conversations on Authenticity and Authentic Leadership. The proceeds of this book are meant for supporting menstruating girls in Africa from poor economic settings.

The proposed simple but exceptional course on Authentic leadership is meant to birth as many authentic people as possible. It will create a battalion of champions and ambassadors of authentic leaders and authentic people in this generation and generations to come.

This is an opportunity for us to fly high like the eagles without leaving anyone behind. The youth, the children in this generation, and those to come, need this more. I can’t do it alone ….we should all come and join hands.
