UN Women and FIFA are joining forces to celebrate the achievements of female football players and promote gender equality during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. With an expected audience of over two billion people, the tournament presents an opportunity to tackle key issues such as the gender pay gap, unequal playing conditions, and online and offline abuse faced by female footballers.

FIFA has tripled the prize money for the 2023 event to $US150 million as part of a three-step gender equality plan, while the “Football Unites the World” campaign will call for action on gender equality and ending violence against women. The messages will be promoted via digital and physical branding during the tournament.
