The image is of Ugandan MP, Francis Mwijukye assaulted by goons in Buhweju, Uganda.

This post on  X(formerly Twitter) accompanied by a photo purportedly showing Kenyan Member of Parliament for Tongaren Chikati Murumba injured by anti-finance Bill protesters is FALSE. 

The photo allegedly shows the Kenyan MP’s face bleeding, with bruises on his head and blood stains on his shirt. The accompanying post reads: “Tongaren MP John Chikati Murumba who voted yes for the Finance Bill 2024 amesalamiwa kidogo na wananchi”,  which directly translates to: “The MP has been ’greeted’ by the citizens.” 

The post claimed that the MP was beaten up for voting in favour of the contentious Finance Bill, which faced opposition over increased taxes. President William Ruto later withdrew the Bill.The photo was allegedly taken the same day the Kenyan-youth-led demonstrators overran Parliament, an incident that saw MPs scampering for their safety. After their successful storm into the Parliament, some of the legislators managed to escape, while some got caught up in the scuffle.

Woman Kenya Network (WOKN) has since  established that the said photo is of a Ugandan MP Francis Mwijukye , and not Chikati Murumba , the Tongaren member of parliament as claimed in the post.

Through a reverse search image on Google Lens, WOKN was able to verify that the person in the photo was Mwijukye, who, through a post on his X. The post claimed that the MP was beaten up for voting in favour of the contentious Finance Bill, which faced opposition over increased taxes. President William Ruto later withdrew the Bill.The photo was allegedly taken the same day the Kenyan-youth-led demonstrators overran Parliament, an incident that saw MPs scampering for their safety.
